Netball at its Best

Nicole spoke to us about Netball. She was quite organised and had Astar help her. Nicole spoke about some of the rules and some examples about helping your teammates. She drew a diagram on the board  and showed us where the players are supposed to be. She also brought a poster in to help show the positions. She also show us some key positions like goal keep and goal shoot and marked the positions on the poster. Sophia asked a good question about where the centre is allowed to go. Natalie asked a good question about why she started playing netball. Nicole explained that her mum and Aster's mum played netball when they were young and Nicole's mum encouraged her to start and to give it a go. Nicole's been playing for 4 years so far. Ryan asked a good question about how they start a game, like is there a toss? Mrs sinclair asked wether they keep the ball after a goal or does the other team get it .
Sophia asked how far away do you have to be to defend. Ethan asked how they put the players into teams for grading. There were lots of questions. Some of the things we thought Nicole did well was her poster, her organisation and the way she explained it. Next time she needs to do a bit mnore of an introduction but she could answer our questions really well. Tomorrow she is going to take our class for a class game.

Kodi presents vandalism to Jewish graves news story.

Kodi spoke about the vandilism of 20 jewish graves. The nazi party logo had been sprayed on the graves and nearby properties."Kinda stupid" was Kodi's opinion. This led to a huge discussion with many contributions and important questions. We discussed how Hitler wanted to have one race and take control of the world. He blamed the Jews for everything that was wrong with Germany. Not all Germans hate Jews, they actually helped them in the war. We don't want that kind of crime in New Zealand-it's based on hate and it's wrong. Kodi said they had gone to court but they weren't releasing their names. He thought they might be pakeha or english people. It took us a while to figure out why Kodi said this but eventually we made the connection with help from me! It's because the people who do these hate crimes are usually involved in skin head or white power groups. We discussed why Hitler had so much power in Germany and why it gave the German people a way of belonging and a way of thinking it would make their life better. Kodi did a good job but he found it was hard to keep talking because we kept having our own discussions. We thought the people who had this happen to their house or to the graves would feel quite scared and upset. We need to learn how to listen properly to each other. The discussion and the questions were great.

Mason brings his views on Global warming and Antarctica

Mason's Current Events
Mason chose global warming in Antarctica for current events today. He talked about how it will affect the inhabitants in Antarctica and the water levels rising due to icebergs melting. Also he said how it is our generation's problem and how we must do what we can to protect the environment.

Mason reads his notes
grabbing our attention.
It was very interesting actually ,not what I'd expect from Mason though. I thought he might talk about cars. I could tell he was quite nervous judging by his voice and the fact he was jumping topics but that's understandable considering it was his first time and not knowing what to expect.

We thought Mason grabbed our attention because he chose something most of us were interested in. I could tell because lots of people had questions on his notes. He had some good points too. Because it could be our problem it made us think a bit more.

Our feedback for Mason was to maybe say "Look that up on your ipod." when he did not know the answer. Mrs Sinclair has put a link she found onto Edmodo.
Take Aim at Climate Change It's got a cool rap that has heaps of links.

That is if you are curious!!!!
    GOOD JOB Mason!!))

Athena shares news of Tyler her baby brother

Athena Shares about Tyler: Her new baby brother born premature

Athena decided to talk about early and late baby births and how it affects them in early life.It was very interesting,I learnt quite a bit of stuff that I didn't know but she talked very fast and pretty quiet so I couldn't really tell what she was saying so it's pretty hard to put alot of information this time. We learnt that babys that are born early are called premature which if you think about it means pre = before and mature = grown so it's born before they are grown. She said her brother Tyler was about 30cm tall, that's like the length of one ruler! She said he was yellow?? so they had to put him under a light called a UV light. Weird!!! That's like growing a potplant. Athena also said that there was another  baby that had skin that was see through. Mrs Sinclair described how the organs (that's the brain e.t.c) form first and sometimes premature babies need help to breathe because their lungs are not 'grown' yet. Tyler didn't need oxygen luckily. We talked about how lucky we are to live in New Zealand where little babies like Tyler can get the help they need and their families don't have to pay heaps. In some other countries premature babies die.
